The highly-anticipated sequel Deadpool & Wolverine is nearing its release date, but it has already received some early reviews from critics. The film marks the arrival of Ryan Reynolds' titular mercenary into the MCU and also brings back Hugh Jackman's iconic take on Wolverine from the live-action X-Men films. Despite the excitement surrounding their big screen team-up, however, early reviews have resulted in the lowest critic scores for the Deadpool films to date.
Deadpool and Wolverine review
While Deadpool & Wolverine has received an overwhelming amount of positive reviews, it also has the lowest critic review scores of the Deadpool films on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Deadpool & Wolverine currently holds a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 81% from 149 reviews. This is just below the 85% score achieved by the first film and the 84% score for Deadpool 2. On Metacritic, however, the film has a more mediocre score of 55 from 47 reviews.
Interestingly, 40% of Metacritic reviews for Deadpool & Wolverine landed in the mixed category. Only 11% of those reviews fall into the negative section on the site. Katie Walsh of the Los Angeles Times was among the reviewers who gave the film a lukewarm rating out of 50. Her review called the film "a lot of air and not much else."
Donald Clarke of The Irish Times also severely criticised the film for its corporate humour and for being “relentlessly childish”.
