Deadpool & Wolverine, which recently opened in theaters, set the box office on fire this summer. The crossover film did so by bringing together two iconic superheroes and introducing them to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the process, it put the franchise on solid footing and propelled it to a huge milestone.

Thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the first film franchise to gross $30 billion at the global box office. Of the 34 MCU films released to date, 11 have grossed over $1 billion at the global box office, with two of them (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) even surpassing the $2 billion mark at the box office.

Judging by how audiences have responded to Deadpool & Wolverine, the superhero film is well on its way to becoming another successful release for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU has had disappointing box office returns with some of its recent entries, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. Deadpool & Wolverine debuted in theaters on Friday, July 26. The film grossed $211 million in North America and $233.1 million overseas, for a total of $444.1 million at the worldwide box office. This recent achievement secures the MCU’s position as the most successful film franchise of all time. Additionally, the Spider-Man franchise (including the SSU, MCU, and all other Spider-Man films) is in second place on that list, having grossed $10.6 billion worldwide, as of July 2024. The Star Wars franchise is in third place after the MCU and Spider-Man, having grossed a combined $10.3 billion at the box office.
