Mandy Patinkin plays the world's greatest detective in the trailer for Hulu's new series Death and Other Details (formerly known as Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem). In it, Patinkin's Rufus Cotesworth helps train an amateur sleuth, Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), whose investigative curiosity inadvertently makes her the only suspect in a murder on a luxury cruise ship.

If you're a fan of The White Lotus and Knives Out, Death and Other Details seems like it'll fit right in. The 10-episode series debuts on Hulu on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 with two episodes, then airs once a week until its two-episode finale on March 5.

Set against the glamorous backdrop of the global elite, Death and Other Details centers on the brilliant and restless Imogene, who finds herself in the wrong place/wrong time (okay, it was kind of her fault) and becomes the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery. The setting? A lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner. Suspects? Every pampered guest and exhausted crew member. The problem? To prove her innocence, she must team up with a man she despises: Rufus Cotesworth (Patinkin), the world’s greatest detective.

As seen in the trailer, the murder victim is a loudmouth passenger named Keith Trubitsky (Michael Gladis). While Imogene reportedly takes a dislike to Rufus, she clearly can’t help but learn from his valuable skills as the pair work together to solve the murder mystery on the high seas. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Lauren Patten as Anna Collier, The Fall of the House of Usher</em>’s Rahul Kohli as Sunil, Angela Zhou as Teddy Goh, Hugo Diego Garcia as Jules, Pardis Saremi as Leila, Linda Emond as Agent Hilde Eriksen, and more, there’s a boatload of entertaining characters for Rufus to interrogate until every last detail is uncovered and this mystery is solved.
