SBIFF 2017 – Denis Villeneuve Discusses Amy Adams and the Relevance of "Arrival"
Films to be screened include Incendies, Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune and Dune: Part Two. Villeneuve will be on hand for a Q&A on Sunday, October 20.
"Denis has become an undisputed modern master of cinema and all of his films demand to be seen on the big screen because they are visceral spectacles," said SBIFF's Executive Director, Roger Durling. "We are so excited to once again be able to screen the films together at the state-of-the-art Riviera and to have Denis join us."
Villeneuve has recently gained international recognition with a pair of Dune films, based on Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking sci-fi novel, which have collectively grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are among the stars of the new franchise. 2021’s Dune won six Academy Awards from 10 nominations, and this year’s Dune: Part Two is also expected to be a major contender. A trilogy based on Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. As we first reported, Villeneuve is also currently eyeing a collaboration with Legendary on Nuclear War: A Scenario, a feature film adaptation of the nonfiction work by Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen.
