If the idea of a live-action Minions movie makes you cringe, you're not alone
Despicable Me director has surprising take on a live-action Minions movie
Chris Renaud, who directed the first two and fourth films in the Despicable Me franchise, shot down the possibility of a live-action version of the mischievous, banana-eating sidekicks.
"God, I hope not," Renaud said bluntly when Film Hounds asked him if there was a possibility that Illumination and Universal would explore live-action films within the franchise. "That's my answer."
Studios like Disney have found success remaking animated classics like 2019’s The Lion King and Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Alice in Wonderland (2010), all of which have grossed over $1 billion in box office revenue. Upcoming films like Mufasa: The Lion King and a live-action Moana hope to match that profitability.
