IT ENDS WITH US Movie Review & Ending Explanation
Christy Hall's screenplay for Sony's It Ends With Us, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, changes a few things about Hoover's story structure, as might be expected in a two-hour film versus a 300-plus page book. Edits, changes and additions to the dialogue, plot and story details may be obvious to dedicated readers of Hoover's novel, while others are more subtle.
A smaller change in a key scene involves how Lily (Blake Lively) recognizes Atlas (Branden Sklenar) at his Boston restaurant. Instead of looking him in the eye, she first sees his hand as he leans down to take an order for her and her mother, and it’s the familiar scar on his knuckles that gives her a clue as to who he is.
