The filmmakers of “The Apprentice,” a biographical drama starring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump, are asking for money to finance the film’s theatrical release.
In a highly unusual move, they launched a Kickstarter called “Release the Apprentice” to “keep the film in as many theaters as possible for as long as possible,” according to a press release. The crowdfunding campaign has tiered rewards based on donation amounts: $25 will allow people to stream the film after it hits theaters, while $100 will get backers a chance to see their name in a special section of the credits. Higher pledges include one of three real toupees Stan wears on screen and VIP tickets to the film’s NYC premiere.
“'The Apprentice' is humanistic first and foremost, which sets it radically apart from all the political noise,” said executive producer Amy Baer.
