Swiss director Simon Jaquemet – fresh from the world premiere of “Electric Child” in Locarno – is considering a film adaptation of “The Lifecycle of Software Objects” by American science fiction writer Ted Chiang. His “Story of Your Life” already inspired Denis Villeneuve to write “Arrival.”

"It's very clever and complex," Jaquemet said of the novella, published in 2010, which could serve as inspiration for his future work. He's also considering a move into series, one that would take place after the events shown in "Electric Child" but still within the same universe.
"The story could take place after a catastrophic AI event. With shows, you have more time – you can make it more complex. Some shows are even more daring than movies [today]," he said.
Meanwhile, Jaquemet is sure to stir up heated debate with his new film, “Electric Child.” Following on from many of the festival’s AI-related conversations, he features a happy couple, Sonny and Akiko (Elliott Crosset Hove and Rila Fukushima), who have just welcomed their first child. Then their world comes crashing down—their baby boy is very sick. Sonny, who has been working with AI superintelligence, asks it for help.
