What started out as a fun accessory now means so much more to the title character in Elsbeth.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday at the Television Critics Tour, Carrie Preston explained why her quirky character Elsbeth Tascioni carries not one, but three bags at a time on her CBS drama.

For those who don't know, Elsbeth's love of portable storage started on The Good Wife, an idea from then-executive producer Brooke Kennedy.

"She has to carry a lot of stuff with her at all times. We got very specific about what those bags were," Preston explained. "She doesn't carry a briefcase. She doesn't see herself that way. They've become a fun accessory. She has bags in her head, she has Rolodexes in her head. She picks out little things that she put there 20 years ago and she thinks, 'I can use those here.'"
