It’s that time again! On Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. PT, you’re probably hoping to hear the names of your favorite shows and stars on the list of Primetime Emmy nominees. But as always, it’s easy to lose track of what actually made it to the ballot box, so if you’re wondering, where’s my show? Here’s a look at which small-screen gems didn’t make the cut.
These are the 2024 Emmy nominations
First of all, let's not forget that Succession, Better Call Saul, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry and Ted Lasso have already passed and won their last Emmys.
But other than that, if you’re thinking about those new episodes of The Bear season 3 you just binged and the guests specific to that season, or your beloved Bridgerton , or The Boys , or House of the Dragon , prepare to be disappointed. And if you’re excited about Olivia Colman returning to The Crown for the series finale, you’re out of luck there too.
Television Academy rules state that comedy, drama, reality, short-form and variety series must air at least six episodes by May 31 to be eligible for consideration that same year (limited series must air all episodes by that date), and guest stars must appear for at least 5% of the episode's running time. So that all counts. For example, Bridgerton Season 3 only aired four of its required six episodes by May 31. While Colman isn't eligible for The Crown , she definitely is for her extended Season 2 guest role in The Bear , and Crown's other recurring guest star, Claire Foy, did make the Emmy timing cut.
