These are the 2024 Emmy nominations
After last year’s drama over the Television Academy’s proposal to reduce the number of writing categories awarded during the main broadcast to three, there are no major changes to the way the 2024 Emmy categories will be spread across three nights, Sept. 7 and 8 (Creative Arts Emmy Awards) and Sept. 15 (Emmy Awards live on ABC).
The goal for the primary broadcast remains 25 categories. Last year, the initial slate of 25 awards did not include Outstanding Writing For a Variety Series, which had been moved to the Creative Arts Emmys, with Outstanding Variety Special (Live) taking a prime slot instead. After a backlash from the WGA and late-night hosts, the ostracized writing category was reinstated on the main broadcast, with the lineup expanding to 26 categories.
Outstanding Variety Special (Live) has now returned to Creative Arts Emmy night, limiting the ABC telecast to 25 categories. (Per the previous agreement with the WGA, Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series and Variety Special are presented alternately between the Creative Emmys and the main broadcast, with the Special being presented on ABC this year.)
