A column about conversations and events during the awards ceremony.
If it seems like we’re in a never-ending Emmy cycle, you’re not far off. But we’re nearly at the finish line, as ballots are now in the hands (or on the laptops) of the Television Academy’s 20,000-plus voting members, and they’re not due until Monday, August 26 at 10 p.m. PT. With the 76th annual Primetime Emmys — our historic second ceremony of the same calendar year — set to take place exactly a month from now on Sunday, September 15 (with Eugene and Dan Levy hosting, as officially announced today after Deadline scooped last week), a clash of seasons will come to an end for the 75th Emmys, which, due to strikes, was delayed four months to January 15 of this year — even though that year’s eligible shows were supposed to end on May 31, 2023.
In other words, folks, we’ve been talking about the Emmys pretty consistently for over a year and a half without a noticeable break (the official FYC season for the 76th kicked off in January, just as the winners of the 75th were being announced). But now it’s crunch time and the stakes are high as voting continues over the next 11 days.
