In the video, Erik Menendez opens up about the emotional letter his brother Lyle wrote to him after they were first arrested for their parents’ murder. Despite being ordered to destroy the letter immediately, Erik decided to keep it because it was the first time his brother had expressed the pain he was feeling. According to Erik, the discovery of the letter was the reason they had no choice but to reveal their family’s dark secret in court, as it hinted at their real reason for killing their parents.
“In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted of murdering their parents in what became one of the most famous criminal trials of the late 20th century. For the first time in 30 years, and in their own words, the brothers look back on the trial that shocked the nation. Through extensive audio interviews with Lyle and Erik, attorneys who attended the trial, journalists who covered it, jurors, family members, and other informed observers, the documentary offers new insight and a fresh perspective on a case that people only think they know.”
