In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed some disappointing news for fans who were hoping for Eternals 2 to hit theaters soon. The planned film was supposed to be a sequel to the 2021 MCU film Eternals, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao. Though Eternals received lukewarm reviews and underperformed at the box office, fans of the film have been hoping for a sequel ever since the original was released. However, Feige's recent comments have cast doubt on the sequel's chances.
Eternals 2: Kevin Feige Says There Are No Immediate Plans for a Sequel
During a conversation with Inverse, Feige provided some major updates on Eternals 2's development status and the likelihood of its release. Like many other Marvel projects, Eternals will feature both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene, with the former introducing new characters and setting up a potential sequel. However, given what Feige said, fans may have to wait a while before they see these storylines or characters again, if they appear at all.
"There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2," Feige told Inverse. "There are, and I think you may have seen in a trailer that we recently put out, an acknowledgement of some of those events. Some giant things came out of the ocean."
The trailer that Feige is referring to when discussing the prospect of Eternals 2 is the recently released teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, which promises that the film will take audiences back to Tiamut Island, which was created when the titular group of superheroes turned the emergent Celestial Tiamut to stone during the climactic final battle in Eternals.
