UPDATE: 04:27 PT: Eurosport commentator Bob Ballard has apologized for his sexist comment about the Australian swimmers, resulting in him being removed from the broadcaster's coverage.

Ballard posted the statement to X in the past few minutes, in which he acknowledged that the "comments I made during the Australian freestyle relay victory ceremony on Saturday caused some offence."

"It was never my intention to hurt or disparage anyone and if I did, I apologize," he added. "I am a huge supporter of women's sports."
