Fede Álvarez has ideas for a sequel to Alien: Romulus.
Alien: Romulus Interview: Director Fede Álvarez Promises Most Actors Will Have Horrible Endings
Alien: Romulus opened in theaters this past weekend. The film, directed by Álvarez, is set between the events of 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens and stars Cailee Spaeny as Rain, David Jonsson as Andy, and more.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Álvarez was asked if he has any ideas for continuing the story of Alien: Romulus and whether he could propose a possible sequel tomorrow if necessary.
“Yes, I can,” Álvarez replied. “We do that naturally, without even thinking about sequels. For us, films have not become franchises, tentpoles, sequels. That’s a language that I’ve only learned in the last ten years of my life that I’ve been working here. For me, it’s always been about the story. So when we were done, we started thinking, ‘What do you think happens when they come to your Yvaga? Is it going to be great?’ Or is it a terrible place?’ We tend to believe that it’s probably a terrible place that they love and fantasize about, so naturally we started thinking about where it’s going and what’s going to happen. And then, a few minutes later, we say, ‘Oh, that sounds like a sequel.’
