The organization also named Goel the recipient of this year’s Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Grant, which will receive $20,000 to support development of their pilot, The Feather Detective, through the Lab. The grant, which recognizes outstanding writers whose screenplays integrate scientific or technological themes and characters into dramatic storytelling, is part of the Foundation’s nationwide film program to advance public understanding of science and technology.
Episodic Lab is an intensive program designed to provide writers with original television pilots with individual story and career development. This year’s program will be held in-person from August 12-23. The Lab helps advance the careers of its Fellows by introducing them to industry veterans who offer guidance on both the craft and business of episodic writing. Through one-on-one feedback from seasoned showrunners, creative producers, and executives, they aim to gain the tools to revise and refine their pilots and navigate a changing industry landscape. A culminating networking and pitch event gives them the opportunity to introduce themselves and their work to studio and network executives.
As a Founding Sponsor, Netflix supports Fellows by pairing them with a Netflix executive who serves as their Industry Advisor and gives them the opportunity to learn from showrunners who are at the helm of Netflix series.
