Media and entertainment companies are currently exploring the possibilities of refining video generation models to create customized model versions for their own internal use, possibly also for specific productions.
Free fine-tuning for GPT-4o Mini model explained
Fine-tuning refers to a process of training a pre-trained AI model on a curated dataset to create a smaller new model, which is then capable of producing more specific types of output. Fine-tuning is rarely discussed or well understood for image or video generation, as companies more often pursue LLM fine-tuning for language (text).
What fine-tuning that “off-the-shelf” video generation models can’t do is potentially allow a studio to create brand new “images” — advanced VFX-like or camera-like shots that are aesthetically more in keeping with a specific cinematic look. For example, if a model were trained on “Star Wars” films, it might generate outputs that match the franchise’s world, such as the Tatooine desert where Anakin Skywalker was born.
Runway is now in the early stages of working with enterprise clients, including film and TV studios, media and advertising companies, to customize or refine its latest video model, Gen-3, said Cristóbal Valenzuela, the company's CEO and co-founder.
