In the 2023 film adaptation, Lillard played the role of Steve Raglan/William Afton, who was initially introduced as a career counselor but was later revealed to be the film's main antagonist.
Lillard's character was last seen being dragged away by the animatronics as Freddy Fazber's Pizzeria collapsed. While responding to a question about his possible participation in Netflix's upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, Lillard confirmed that he is currently scheduled to begin filming the Five Nights at Freddy's 2 movie sometime in October.
"We're professionals on a career path… definitely, I would love to… somehow honor the original show, give the fans something fun," Lillard said during an interview with Jaybee and Milly on YouTube. "I'm available. I'm doing a TV show right now, I'm doing FNAF in October, but I'm available. If anybody wants me, they can find me if they need me."
