Bayan Muna Speaker Neri Colmenares urged the Senate and House of Representatives to take a critical look at how government officials spend their confidential and intelligence funds and to hold accountable those who cannot reasonably justify their use.

Colmenares issued the statement after information about confidential fund expenditures by Vice President Sara Duterte emerged.
“According to information gathered by Bayan Muna, VP Duterte spent Php 125 million from her Confidential and Intelligence Fund just for the period from February 6 to March 29, 2023, or in a span of about 50 days. Worse, she spent another Php 125 million from April 25 to June 30, 2023, or a little over 2 months,” Colmenares said.
“During that period, she indicated that she spent P22 million on ‘purchase of information’ and another P27 million on ‘payment of reward’, without explaining this huge amount in just over 3 months, since the two items could overlap and be given to the same person,” he added.
