The “Friday the 13th” prequel series “Crystal Lake” has tapped Brad Caleb Kane as its new creator, showrunner and executive producer.
Friday the 13th Prequel Series Loses Showrunner
The series originates from A24 and was ordered to series by Peacock in 2022. Kane was hired about three months after original series creator Bryan Fuller was fired from the project.
No plot details are available for the series, but in the original 1980 film, Jason Voorhees is a child who drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. His death prompts his mother Pamela to seek revenge on the counselors she blamed for her son's death. Jason then became the antagonist beginning in the second film in the franchise.
"From the moment I saw Jason Voorhees squeeze a man's eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the age of 8, I knew my creative path would one day intersect with The Man Behind The Mask," said Kane. "Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher film, and nothing defined the genre more than 'Friday The 13th.' I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, especially with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24."
