From welcoming LGBTQ Catholics to better representation of women, the Vatican on Tuesday published a reflection on the most important societal issues facing the Catholic Church, part of a global survey on the future of the church.

The 50-page document is intended as food for thought for the “Synod on Synodality,” a gathering of bishops and lay people from around the world to be held in October 2023, before a second phase in October 2024.
The meeting was initiated by Pope Francis, who wants to make the Church more welcoming to marginalized people. The meeting is part of a broad consultation with 1.3 billion Catholics on all continents. Over the past two years, they have been invited to share their views on the Church and social issues.
“What concrete steps are needed to welcome those who feel excluded from the Church because of their status or sexuality (e.g. divorced and remarried people, people in polygamous marriages, LGBTQ+ people, etc.)?” is an example of questions asked about involving marginalized groups.
