The House of Representatives Committees on Youth and Sports Development and on Budgets have approved in plenary session a measure to establish an annual regional and national competition for indigenous sports such as patintero and syato.
Limpopo hosts annual Indigenous National Games
The proposed Philippine Indigenous Games Preservation Act (House Bill 8466) aims to protect indigenous games as living heritage and promote cultural awareness.
The measure requires the Philippine Sports Competition (PSC), in partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and local governments, to organize annual regional and national indigenous sports competitions.
The NCIP, in coordination with relevant government agencies, will initiate measures such as curriculum inclusion and production of documentaries and other materials to preserve indigenous games such as bunong braso, hilahang lubid, kadang-kadang, karera sa sako, luksong tinik, patintero, syato and unggoy-unggoyan.
