George Russell was disqualified after the Belgian GP for a breach of the FIA Formula 1 technical regulations regarding the weight of his car after the race.

After an excellent drive to the finish line, Russell secured P1 at the Belgian GP with a one-stop strategy. However, his very impressive efforts were in vain as he was disqualified from the race after initially taking victory. This disqualification was due to a violation of FIA rules regarding the weight of the car after the race. According to the rules, the minimum weight of the car without fuel should be 798 kg. However, when Russell was measured after the race, the scales read 798 kg, before the fuel had been drained from the car.

Therefore, after the 2.8 litres of remaining fuel had been removed, George Russell's car was underweight, weighing 796.5 kg. Regarding this issue, a technical delegate's report stated: "As this is 1.5 kg below the minimum weight required by TR Article 4.1, which must also be respected at all times during the race, I refer this matter to the stewards for consideration." Later, after the stewards' hearing, they issued a document. It stated: "The stewards determine that Article 4.1 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations has been breached and therefore the standard penalty for such an offence should be applied."
