Germany said on Wednesday it regretted not giving journalists the chance to ask questions after statements by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and visiting Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Painful silence: Chinese official temporarily speechless after question about protests
"I would have liked to see it differently, but we could not change it," Scholz spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told a regular government press conference.
The German Chancellor and Li both issued brief statements on Tuesday following a two-day visit by the Chinese premier.
“The Chinese side has made it very clear that they are not prepared to answer questions and would rather not have a meeting with the press at all,” Hebestreit said.
