The Shocking Truth of Gypsy Rose Revealed | The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard | Lifetime

The infamous case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard continues to garner interest after her release from prison. The former convict was charged in 2016 with the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but she was released on probation in December 2023. Her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, will continue to serve life in prison after being convicted of the first-degree murder of Dee Dee.

According to MSNBC News, Dee Dee Blanchard medically abused Gypsy Rose. Her daughter was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy (now known as "factitious disorder imposed on another"). It is a rare psychological disorder in which a person, usually a parent, causes another person to receive unnecessary medical treatment by causing injury or illness, misrepresenting the victim as sick, or faking symptoms.

The two received immense support from the community, as Dee Dee seemed devoted to caring for her "sick" daughter. In addition, they received government assistance, including a home and a Disney vacation. According to MSNBC News, Dee Dee claimed that Gypsy Rose suffered from epilepsy, leukemia, brain damage and muscular dystrophy. She forced her daughter to undergo unnecessary surgeries and had her use a wheelchair and feeding tubes.
