HARD TRUTHS – Official Trailer – Directed by Mike Leigh and starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste
“People, I can’t stand them,” she exclaims in the trailer, which was released ahead of the film’s world premiere in Toronto on Sept. 6. “Happy, grinning people.”
In "Hard Truths," legendary British author Leigh returns to the contemporary world after "Mr. Turner" and "Peterloo" with what is described as a "fierce, compassionate and often darkly humorous study of family and the thorny ties that bind us."
Reuniting with Leigh for the first time since the multiple Oscar-nominated Secrets and Lies, Jean-Baptiste plays Pansy, a woman wracked with anxiety, plagued by illness and prone to angry tirades against her husband, son and anyone who looks her way. Meanwhile, her easygoing younger sister, played by Michele Austin (“Another Year”), is a single mother whose life is as different from Pansy’s as their clashing temperaments — full of shared warmth from her salon clients and daughters.
