EXCLUSIVE: Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) will produce and star in That Friend , a bromance comedy about the dynamics of friendship and growing up. It marks the directorial debut of screenwriters/directors Will Sterling and Alex Wall.
THE ANTI-BULLYING BULLYER IS BEING BULLIED
In the upcoming film, Guillén portrays Paul, that one friend we all have whose invitation for “one drink” seems innocent enough, but before you know it, you’re drunk on a Tuesday, wobbling around your kitchen eating dry ramen out of the bag and wishing you hadn’t sent that text. Henry is just trying to have a romantic weekend in Palm Springs with his new girlfriend Penny until Paul interrupts their trip. And when Paul’s pack of drug-laced cigarettes disappears into a stranger’s hands, the night really takes a turn.
Production on That Friend is expected to begin in December, with Ryan Tillotson and LA-based Straw Hut Media producing alongside Guillén.
Guillén is best known for his critically acclaimed breakout role in FX's modern vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows , which previewed its sixth and final season yesterday and premieres October 21 at San Diego Comic-Con. In Jemaine Clement's show, based on his and Taika Waititi's 2014 New Zealand film of the same name, Guillén portrays Guillermo de la Cruz, the long-suffering confidant (or servant) of vampire Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), who in season five fulfills his wish to become a vampire himself.
