PUBG owner Krafton has acquired Tango Gameworks from Xbox, with the Japanese studio bringing the Hi-Fi Rush IP with it.
Xbox SOLD TANGO GAMEWORKS!! Tango is BACK!!
Krafton announced the acquisition in its quarterly earnings report, saying it is working with Xbox to ensure continuity at Tango Gameworks during a (hopefully) smooth transition.
It came out of nowhere when Xbox announced earlier this year that it was closing Tango Gameworks and other Zenimax/Bethesda studios including Arkane Austin. The release of Hi-Fi Rush was received with critical acclaim, but it wasn’t enough to save Tango Gameworks from the brink, even when Microsoft splashed the cash on its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
But now the studio can continue under a new owner.
