In a new interview, Kotb said the driving force behind her decision to quit the morning show was to spend more time with her family.
"I knew I wanted this decade to be different," Kotb told People about her 60th birthday and her desire for change in her life. "I saw my time as a pie. I thought, 'This is how much time I have, and what am I going to do with it now and how am I going to divide it?' And I wanted it to be filled with more of that time."
She continued, "There's this guilt that you carry around because you can't be 100 percent at work and 100 percent at home. Something has to happen if you want excellence. If you want excellence at work, something has to happen at home. And if you want excellence at home, I mean excellence, and you want to do all those things, something has to happen at work. It can't be equal."
