The House Finance Committee on Tuesday approved a measure aimed at regulating online sales of tobacco products.

Under the unnumbered substitute bill, online sales apps would only be allowed to sell tobacco products that are registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The proposal also gives the BIR the authority to remove illegal product listings on digital platforms through the National Telecommunications Commission.
The measure also includes the mandatory use of a Tracking and Tracing System, using secure digital markers via unique identification features on tobacco products. It also requires mandatory registration of tobacco product manufacturing equipment within 30 days of purchase or disposal.
