He finally returns in the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, albeit in a cameo.
During a recent press conference, show creator Ryan Condal went into great detail about Hightower's late-season appearance. Condal shied away from giving specific details about the character's fate, but did offer a tease of his Season 3 appearance. "We were excited to have Rhys back in the story," he said. "I will just say that the Otto Hightower story is not over."
