In the minutes before Liam Gallagher headlined Reading Festival on Sunday 25 August, a clock on the big screen counted back from 2024 to 1994.
Gallagher's “Definitely Maybe” anniversary tour was intended to transport the audience – largely made up of 16-year-olds celebrating or lamenting their recent GCSE exam results – back to the days of Oasis' debut album, with the set consisting entirely of songs from that era.
But what happened behind the scenes would truly take Britain – and to a lesser extent the world – back to the days of Britpop mania.
