Olympic watchers wondered how old Quincy Wilson is. The runner competed in the 4×400 meter relay and became the youngest American man to compete in track and field at the Olympics. You might be surprised to learn Wilson’s age and the year he was born.
16-year-old sprinter Quincy Wilson becomes youngest American male track athlete ever
According to World Athletics, Quincy Wilson is 16 years old. He was born on January 8, 2008. While most people would be surprised to see a 16-year-old competing in the Olympics and assume that you have to be 18 to compete, that is not the case. The age limit varies depending on the event, and athletes as young as 10 have competed in the past.
Wilson set the world record for the under-18 boys 400m at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, finishing sixth overall with a time of 44.94. Although it wasn't good enough to make the 400m team, he was added to the 4x400m relay pool.
Wilson's performance at the Olympics, however, left much to be desired. Despite his excellent performance at the trials, he ran a disappointing 47.27 in his first leg of the 4x400m relay. Fortunately, his teammates were able to salvage the race and Team USA finished third, advancing to the finals, which will take place on Saturday, August 10.
