How the Harris Surge Derailed Trump's Battle Plan
WASHINGTON, Aug 8 (Reuters) – Just over two weeks ago, Donald Trump's presidential campaign had visions of a sweeping national strategy that would result in a landslide victory in November.
As they struggle to slow the rising Kamala Harris, who quickly replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee last month, campaign advisers say they are recalibrating their policies to protect states once considered safe and limiting their ambitions on the electoral map.
While Trump's top advisers once saw a chance for an election victory — with Democratic-leaning states like Minnesota and Virginia in play — Harris's promotion has prompted Republicans to refocus on a narrower path to victory through traditional swing states like Pennsylvania and Georgia.
