EXCLUSIVE: Nonprofit Humanitas on Friday announced the five fellows selected for the 2024 New Voices Fellowship, as well as the winners of the Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award and the David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award.
Nominees for the 2024 Humanitas Prize announced Biggest evening of comedy and drama revealed
Recipients of the New Voices Fellowship, a six-month mentorship program for emerging television and screenwriters, include AJ Currie, Lucas Miller, George Pérez, Mads Summerfield, and Kim Lee Winslow. As fellows, each is paired with acclaimed screenwriters for one-on-one mentorship focused on polishing a script submitted for fellowship consideration. Previous mentors include Jenny Bicks, Scott Z. Burns, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Steven Canals, Marissa Jo Cerar, Robb Chavis, Tom Fontana, Hart Hanson, Winnie Holzman, Jason Katims, Bill Lawrence, David Shore, Charise Castro Smith, Robin Swicord, and many more.
Fellows also each receive a $7,500 stipend, a three-month membership to MasterClass, headshots and a free course from the UCLA Extension Writers' Program, and participate in a conversation and workshop series with professional development support. Past workshop participants include DJ Nash, Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Marshall Herskowitz, and Jay Kogen.
Humanitas also today awarded Ina Ycasas, a recent graduate of the University of Southern California’s Writing for Screen and Television BFA program, the Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award. Anushka Thorat, a recent graduate of Columbia University with a BA in Film & Media Studies and Business Management, won the David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award. They each receive a $20,000 cash prize and a professional script notes session with a writer in the Humanitas community.
