At WWE SummerSlam, Gunther defeated Damian Priest with an assist from The Judgment Day's leader, Finn Balor. Gunther, who was celebrating his victory on WWE Raw last week, faced former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton.
Gunther and Randy Orton, who have a history with each other, faced each other in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. Gunther won the match, but fans noticed that one of Randy Orton's shoulders was up during the pin. WWE acknowledged the mistake on the commentary during the broadcast and by Triple H.
Last week, Orton challenged Gunther to a World Heavyweight Championship match at Bash Berlin. Gunther accepted the challenge and said he wanted to wipe his winning record clean.
