Hold Your Breath Star Annaleigh Ashford on Her Hulu Horror Film and Ryan Murphy's Monsters | Interview
“In 1930s Oklahoma, amid the region’s terrifying sandstorms, a woman (Sarah Paulson) is convinced that a sinister presence is threatening her family,” the synopsis reads.
Tyler Treese: I think Hold Your Breath looks great, and it speaks to the directors, especially how they shot it, but the location seems like a character. What was it like filming in New Mexico and dealing with all that dust going around?
Annaleigh Ashford: What a great question. Um, like you said, the location is absolutely a character in the film and it was absolutely a force. During filming, we had to clear the land where the house in the film is and, uh, as a result, the land spoke back. You know, one of the threads in the story in the film is the effects of climate change. This was a man-made climate disaster, the sticker, a lot of people don't know about it, and it happened a hundred years ago, and we're, as we're navigating man-made climate disasters now, uh, we cleared that land and then we had a mini dust storm. 'cause the land was like, uh, don't touch me. I don't like that. Isn't that fascinating? It is, yeah. It was a character in the film.
