Elizabeth Banks Spent Mick Jagger's Birthday With Him; Talks Thriller Film Skincare
"Celebrity esthetician Hope Goldman (Elizabeth Banks) is on the verge of taking her career to the next level by launching her own skincare line, but her personal and professional lives are put to the test when rival esthetician Angel Vergara (Luis Gerardo Méndez) opens a new skincare boutique right across the street from her shop. Suspecting that someone is trying to sabotage her reputation and business, she teams up with her boyfriend Jordan (Lewis Pullman) to unravel the mystery of who is trying to destroy her life," reads the synopsis of the film directed by Austin Peters.
Tyler Treese: Skincare is a thriller, but the film has such a fun energy. How did you come up with the vibe of the film? You really capture LA.
Austin Peters: I think we always, from the beginning, said that the movie was a thriller. That decision was our North Star in guiding those creative decisions, to make sure it was exciting first and foremost. Then we let the comedy shine through and the ridiculousness of the situation shine through. But we never tried to let it overpower the seriousness of the situation as it escalated. So that was something that we just calibrated throughout the process, every step of the way, in the writing, in the shooting, and really in the editing, because we just had so many great choices from this cast.
