The family of late R&B legend Isaac Hayes announced Sunday night that they are suing presidential candidate Donald Trump over his unauthorized use of “Hold On, I'm Coming” during campaign events.
Family of Isaac Hayes furious that Trump used song for his dance during controversial NRA speech
In documents posted to Hayes' social media accounts, his family demanded that Trump stop playing the song and pay $3 million for its unauthorized use from 2022 to 2024, saying it violated copyright law 134 times. Hayes wrote "Hold On, I'm Coming" for R&B act Sam & Dave, and as such his estate owns the rights to it.
In the letter, Hayes' family also asked that all videos in which Trump uses the song be removed and that Trump's campaign release an official statement acknowledging that Hayes' estate did not "authorize, approve or condone" the use of the song.
Hayes' family further said that if these demands are not met, they "will take all legal action necessary to enforce the infringement of intellectual property rights, including but not limited to filing third-party takedown requests and/or federal lawsuits."
