James B. Sikking, the prolific, Emmy-nominated actor known for his roles in Hill Street Blues and Doogie Howser, MD, died July 13 from dementia. He was 90.

Sikking died at his home in Los Angeles. His publicist Cynthia Snyder told Deadline that the actor was surrounded by his family in his final moments.
"In a remarkable career, Sikking's wonderfully electrifying face gave us drama, comedy, tragedy and hilarious farce. His career spanned more than six decades on television, in films and on stage," Snyder said in a statement, adding: "His talent, integrity and imagination intrigued and delighted audiences."
Sikking received an Emmy nomination in 1984 for his role as the gung-ho SWAT leader Lt. Howard Hunter on Hill Street Blues during the show's entire 1981-87 run, and played the title character's father, Dr. David Howser, on Doogie Howser, MD from 1989 to 1993. He was also a regular on Brooklyn South in 1997-98 and appeared in such shows as Rawhide, Bonanza, Starsky & Hutch, The Rockford Files, Turnabout, General Hospital and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
