During a recent interview, Cameron gave a candid and honest answer to a question about a possible return to the Alien franchise. The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who holds the unprecedented distinction of having three films that have surpassed $2 billion at the global box office, directed Aliens early in his career. When the film was released, it grossed approximately $131-183.3 million at the worldwide box office against a reported budget of $18 million. The film currently holds a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaking to The Guardian, Cameron reflected on whether he would return to the franchise. While he didn't dismiss the prospect entirely, he did say it was unlikely.
"It's kind of a trodden ground right now," the Avatar director said. "I wouldn't rule anything out, but I have 23 other projects lined up before that hypothetical project, so I don't think that's going to happen, since I'm turning 70. You have to pick your battles at some point. You know what I mean?" he added.
