The show was first announced in May and is said to be set in the same world as the CBS comedy "The Neighborhood." According to the official logline, "Francois 'Frank' Crutchfield (Morgan), known as 'Crutch,' is a brash but beloved Harlem store owner whose world is turned upside down when his intellectual son (Fowler) and free-spirited daughter return to the family home."
Fowler's character is named Jake. He is described as "an Ivy League-educated lawyer who leaves a high-paying job at a fancy, white-shoe law firm to provide low-cost legal services in Harlem."
The role brings Fowler back into the Paramount fold, as he previously starred for two seasons in the CBS multi-cam "Superior Donuts." His other television credits include the FX limited series "A Murder at the End of the World" and the truTV sketch comedy series "Friends of the People." He has appeared in films such as "Coming 2 America," "Sorry to Bother You," "Judas and the Black Messiah" and "Ricky Stanicky." Fowler is also an accomplished stand-up comedian and debuted the 2015 Showtime stand-up special "Give 'Em Hell, Kid."
