Jerry Seinfeld Blames the Left for Killing Comedy
In a discussion with Tom Papa on Breaking Bread, Seinfeld said, "I did an interview with The New Yorker and I said that the far left has stifled the art of comedy. That's what I said. That's not true. It's not true." He expressed his regret, saying, "There are two things I have to say that I regret and take back."
Seinfeld clarified that he initially argued that the "far left" and political correctness were stifling humor, but that he now believes that cultural shifts are a normal part of comedy's evolution. "Whatever the culture is, we make the gate. If you don't make the gate, you're out of the game," Seinfeld said, comparing comedians' adaptability to a skier navigating gates on a mountain.
The comedian also addressed a common misconception that he refuses to perform for students because of their politically correct stance. He refuted this by stating, "I don't have a problem with kids, I perform for them," and noted that he regularly performs at college campuses. (via Deadline)
