Joaquin Phoenix spoke at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday about rethinking his controversial “Joker” diet for the film’s sequel, saying it was “a little more difficult” because of the dance component of “Folie à Deux.”
Joaquin Phoenix Explains His 'Joker' Diet
"I won't go into the details of the diet, but this time it felt a little more complicated because we had so many dance rehearsals, which I didn't have last time," Phoenix said. "So it felt a little harder … but it's safe. But yeah, I'm 49 now, I probably shouldn't do this again."
Phoenix made headlines in 2020 when he revealed that he had lost 52 pounds in preparation for his role as Arthur Fleck in the first film. During the film's press conference, he said that he ate mostly lettuce and steamed vegetables to achieve the villain's lean appearance.
During the press conference, Phoenix was also asked about pulling out of Todd Haynes' untitled gay romance film just five days before filming was set to begin in Mexico. "If I were to do that, I would just be giving my opinion from my perspective and the other creatives aren't there to have their say, so I don't think that would be helpful."
