Mr. Son of the Century | Official Teaser Trailer | Sky
British director Joe Wright, who directed the Winston Churchill drama Darkest Hour, is at the Venice Film Festival with another period piece, the high-profile TV drama M. Son of the Century. The series chronicles the rise of Benito Mussolini and is particularly topical as populist leaders emerge around the world.
Based on Italian author Antonio Scurati’s best-selling novel of the same name, which chronicles the birth of fascism in Italy, “M” reconstructs Mussolini’s rise to power with an innovative approach. Luca Marinelli (“The Eight Mountains,” “Martin Eden”) plays the despotic leader spanning the period between 1919, when he founded the Fascist Party in Italy, and 1925, when Mussolini—after coming to power in the 1922 March on Rome—infamously delivered a speech in Italy’s Chamber of Deputies declaring himself dictator.
“M” is produced by Sky Studios and Lorenzo Mieli for Fremantle-owned The Apartment Pictures, in association with Pathé and Small Forward. The show, which was largely filmed at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, will debut on Sky in European territories (UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) in 2025, with Fremantle handling international sales.
