Chestnut and Kobayashi, two of the world’s most famous competitive eaters, faced off in a 10-minute hot dog eating contest on Labor Day. Chestnut ate 83 hot dogs and buns, breaking the previous world record of 76, which he set in 2021. Meanwhile, Kobayashi ate 66 hot dogs, breaking his personal record of 64.5 set in 2009.
The live event, billed as "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef" and streamed live on Netflix, took place at the Hyper X Arena at the Luxor in Las Vegas. Actor Rob Riggle and former WWE star Nikki Garcia hosted the event.
According to the competition rules, Chestnut and Kobayashi were not allowed to submerge or pour water over the hot dogs and buns, they were not allowed to separate the hot dogs from the buns, and they had 30 seconds to eat whatever was left in their mouths after the 10-minute timer ran out.
