Joseph “Joey” Tufaro, a producer best known for Kidnap (2017) and Maggie (2015), died on July 21 at the age of 58 at his home in Lakeview, Louisiana. No cause has been given.
Tufaro also co-founded Gold Star Films, which aims to increase film production in Louisiana.
Born in New Orleans, he earned a degree in business administration and finance from Loyola University of New Orleans. After a successful career of more than 20 years as a real estate developer and a brief stint as a minority owner of several car dealerships, he set his sights on learning how Hollywood finances independent films. It was a natural choice for him to become a producer when his home state of Louisiana introduced State Film Tax Credits.
