EXCLUSIVE: A story that director John Boorman praised to his children is now being developed into an animated feature film. The Honey Wars was a story veteran director Boorman told to his children, and now Dublin-based animation house Kavaleer Productions is developing it into a 90-minute film. Boorman has opened up the Rolodex and helped secure a roster of star voice actors. The producers are in talks with Jamie Lee Curtis, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Brendan Gleeson, Richard E. Grant and Jon Voight.

Billed as a dark comedy fantasy, the story follows Hope, a young girl with a secret gift to see the invisible threads that connect the magical world to ours. Recently uprooted by the loss of her mother, she stumbles into a bitter conflict rooted in two warring tribes: the Fairies and the Elves. She meets Alfred, a mischievous and banished Elf, and Fiona, an outcast fairy. The unlikely comrades uncover long-buried truths and begin to lay the foundation for an unthinkable reconciliation in the war-torn universe.
Five-time Oscar nominee Boorman's credits include Point Blank, Deliverance, Excalibur and Hope and Glory. "I'm so excited to see this story of myth and magic brought to life and I hope it captures the hearts and minds of many children, as it did mine," he said.
His children weighed in on the discussion, saying they were all behind the project. His son, Charley Boorman, said: "I'm so glad that 'The Honey Wars' is finally going to be made into a movie. I grew up with a father who was such a great storyteller, he told us all sorts of stories, but 'The Honey Wars' between the fairies and the elves was the one that made us laugh and got our imaginations going."
