At least three suspects have been served with search warrants by the LAPD homicide unit in connection with the death of Johnny Wactor, police sources told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday. Two were being held pending bail. The 37-year-old "General Hospital" star was shot to death in downtown Los Angeles on May 25 during an alleged attempted theft of a catalytic converter.

The Times reported that anonymous police sources said Wactor’s investigation is focused on Florencia 13 gang members who have ties to catalytic converter thefts in the area. A probable cause affidavit was used to obtain warrants for three individuals whose fingerprints matched those on a jack used to steal Wactor’s catalytic converter.
Shortly after Wactor's death, a GoFundMe was launched seeking donations to support the actor's family. The fundraiser has raised more than $144,000 since its launch. Wactor's godmother, Michaelle Kinard, launched the campaign.
“On May 25th, my dearest and best friend’s son was murdered. He was the victim of the most senseless crime,” Kinard wrote on the page. “Early Saturday morning, Johnny was leaving his night job with a coworker when they encountered three guys trying to steal his catalytic converter. He thought he was going to be towed and said, ‘Am I going to be towed?’ The person stood up with a mask on, said nothing, and shot him.”
